Book IV, “Giving Up!” – Excerpt – Text: 1 Kings 19:1-15

Read  1 Kings 19:1-15

You and many others in churches, communities, families, and individuals are living in a time when there is a shift in relationships, the economy, and value systems.   There is a divide with understanding and communicating experiences that affect the well-being of all people, especially the children!  This shift – this divide – comes from being bombarded with images and projections intersecting with realities and hopefulness – inaccurate political advertisements, manipulated and misleading information.  This shift – this divide – comes from being bombarded with the desirability of consumption intersecting with the characteristic of integrity – encouraging purchasing cars without requiring regulations on the emission of carbon fumes that affects the atmosphere, buying votes of political leaders to enhance corporate profits, and suppressing voters’ rights to enhance probability of gaining access to influential power roles.  This shift – this divide – results in the mentality of “I got mine – you get yours on your own”!  How did we get to this place?

Over the years, large corporate businesses, conglomerates, financial institutions, and political-action causes dominated by persons of enormous wealth have bombarded the media, stores advertisements, and commercials by promoting products and services that influence our decision without considering:  1) if we need it, 2) if it’s good for us, 3) if it’s safe, 4) if we can afford it, 5) if it’s appropriate for our body-type and ethnicity, and 6) if it will do harm to our health.  The people have become mesmerized into assuming overwhelming debt that they can’t afford.
